Alerts & mentions

You hear about what is for you — not every message in every topic. Something is for you when someone mentions you, replies to one of your messages, or sends you a direct message.

What counts

  • An @mention of you in a topic — by a person, the topic manager or an agent.
  • A reply to a message you wrote.
  • A direct message, or a message from a topic manager in your private chat with it.

Alerts are for the organization you have open.

How you are told

When you are…You get
Looking at the appA sound and a card at the corner of the screen. Click it to go to the message.
In another tab or appA browser notification (once you turn them on), and the tab title shows a count, like (2).
Already in that conversationA softer sound, no card.

The topic also gets an @ marker in the sidebar and on the Topics page until you open it, and Mentions in the sidebar shows a dot.

The Mentions page

Mentions in the sidebar lists the mentions and replies for you in this organization, newest first. Click one to open its topic at that message.

Turning things on and off

Account menu → Settings → Sounds & notifications:

  • Sounds — on or off, for this browser.
  • Browser notifications — Turn on asks your browser for permission. If you blocked them earlier, allow them again in the browser’s site settings.
  • Tips — the short hints above the message box. Reset tips shows them again.
Calls ring separately
An incoming call rings and shows a pop-up wherever you are in the app. See Calls and meetings.

The bell

The bell in the top bar holds invitations to organizations (Accept or Decline them there) and short notes on what’s new in the product.
