Branching off
When a thread inside a topic needs its own room, branch it off. A branch is an ordinary topic that starts already knowing the conversation it came out of, so nobody has to explain the background again.
Start one
- The branch icon in a topic’s header, or
⋯→ Branch off. - From a message — hover it (tap it on a phone) → Branch off from this message.
- From a to-do —
⋯→ Branch off from this.
Give it a name and a description, choose who’s in it, and whether it is Private (the default) or public to everyone who can see the topic it came from. Then Branch off.
Carrying the conversation over
By default the branch starts with the conversation it came from, and its topic manager opens with what it understood and the questions it still has. That is only offered when everyone you invite was already in the original topic — someone new would otherwise read a conversation they were never part of. Invite an outsider and the branch starts clean; it still knows what it is for.
A room of its own
A branch has its own wiki, to-dos and journal, and a line in its header saying where it came from. Nothing is copied back automatically.
