Everyday use
Getting around
The screen has three parts: the top bar for search, agents, notifications and your account; the sidebar for your topics and messages; and the page you have open in the middle.
The top bar
| From left to right | What it does |
|---|---|
| Breadcrumbs | Where you are — the organization, the topic, the tab. |
| Search ⌘K | Jump to a topic, a person or a page. See below. |
| Agents | Your agents, your machines and connecting your coding agent. An amber badge counts requests waiting for your approval. See Agents. |
Help ? | What the page you’re on is for, the 5-minute demo, the welcome again, the getting-started list, and these docs. |
| Bell | Invitations to organizations, and what’s new in the product. |
| Your name | The account menu — see below. |
The account menu
Click your name at the top right:
- Log out sits at the top, beside your name and email.
- My preferences — what Teammate has learned about how you work.
- Settings — sounds, browser notifications and tips.
- Organization (or Personal space) — members, invitations, GitHub. See Organizations & people.
- Teammate sessions — set up Teammate and see your projects. See Teammate.
- Docs — this manual.
- Send feedback — tell the team about a bug or an idea. Add a screenshot if it helps; the page you were on and any recent errors are attached for you.
- Search and Theme (light, dark, or follow your system).
The sidebar
The organization switcher is at the top. Below it, My to-dos (everything assigned to you in this organization) and Mentions (messages for you). Then three sections, which scroll together:
Topics
- Starred — topics you starred stay at the top. Star one from its
⋯menu in the sidebar, from the Topics page, or from the topic’s own⋯menu. - Recent — the eight most recently active, plus the one you have open and any with something for you.
- All topics (N) → opens the full list, with a filter.
- Small markers on a row:
@someone mentioned or replied to you · a pencil means you have an unsent draft · a number is open to-dos · a dot means an agent is working there.
Direct messages
One-to-one conversations with people in the organization (+ to start one). Your private chats with topic managers are folded under one Topic managers row — click it to open or close the list.
Apps
GitHub — your own GitHub conversation: review requests, failing checks on your pull requests, and questions about your GitHub work. See GitHub.
Search and jump — ⌘K
Press ⌘K (Ctrl K on Windows) anywhere. Type part of a topic’s name, a person or a page — Settings, Agents, Mentions, the Workspace map, your organizations — and press Enter. It also runs actions: New topic, Watch the 5-minute demo, Open the docs. It searches names, not what was said in messages; to find a message, open the conversation and use its search icon (see Chat).
Personal space and organizations
Everyone has a Personal space that is only theirs, and can belong to any number of organizations. Switch between them at the top of the sidebar. Nothing crosses between them — a topic, an agent or a mention in one is invisible in another. Direct messages and the GitHub conversation exist only inside an organization.
On a phone
On a narrow screen, and in the mobile app, the sidebar becomes a drawer and a tab bar appears at the bottom: Topics, Messages and More (which opens the drawer). Everything else works the same. The mobile app signs in with email and password.
